Platform Overview
Understand FireSonic’s processing model, responsibilities, and deployment philosophy.
FireSonic is a lightweight healthcare integration platform that receives HL7 v2 messages, persists them before processing, transforms them into FHIR R4 transaction Bundles, applies customer-specific workflow logic and semantic validation, and delivers standardized FHIR data downstream.
Generic HL7 v2 → FHIR transformation belongs in the platform core. Organization-specific normalization, enrichment, reconciliation, and validation belong in Groovy scripts and semantic rules.
Core capabilities
HL7 v2 intake & processing
MLLP receive, framing validation, ACK/NAK handling, durable intake, queueing, and asynchronous processing.
HL7 → FHIR transformation
Deterministic Java-based conversion for supported HL7 v2 message types, segments, and healthcare workflows.
FHIR Bundle generation & delivery
FHIR R4 transaction Bundle generation, linked resources, and downstream delivery to the configured FHIR server.
Customer workflow customization
Filter messages, normalize source HL7, enrich generated FHIR, and apply organization-specific workflow logic.
Groovy integration scripts
Lifecycle hooks provide defined extension points without modifying the platform core.
Managed integration APIs
Use platform-managed FHIR and HTTP clients, configuration, caches, retry helpers, and terminology services.
Semantic validation using Groovy DSL
Evaluate context-aware INFO, WARNING, and ERROR rules before delivery. ERROR issues block downstream delivery.
Reliable persistence & recovery
Persist-before-process architecture, retry tracking, restart recovery, retention, and operational message history.
Administration & diagnostics
Built-in Admin Console, health endpoint, message inspection, retry operations, and runtime diagnostics.
Standalone & Docker deployment
Run as a Java 25 application on Linux or Windows, or build and deploy a Docker image in your environment.
Automatic script & rule hot reload Commercial
Activate validated script and semantic-rule generations without restarting the FireSonic runtime.
Prometheus & Grafana observability Commercial
Expose Prometheus metrics and use the official FireSonic Grafana dashboard for operational monitoring.
Typical use cases
- HL7 v2 → FHIR modernization projects.
- ADT patient and encounter workflows.
- Laboratory, observation and order integrations.
- Scheduling, appointment and immunization workflows.
- Medication, clinical document and financial workflows.
- Customer-specific normalization, FHIR enrichment and external REST integration.
- Clinical context integrity and semantic validation before delivery.
Deployment model
The platform is designed for focused, lightweight deployments. Embedded persistence removes the requirement for an external database server in the default architecture. Linux and Windows are supported as server deployment platforms. macOS is supported as a development workstation.
